The English production of CATS is back in Seoul from June 13 to August 24, 2014.
CATS, the most well-known and loved musical, will return to Korea. This musical was composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber, based on a book by T.S. Eliot, and produced by Cameron Mackintosh. CATS tell the story of a tribe of cats called the Jellicles and the night they make what is known as “the Jellicle choice.” The song, “Memory” is a famous song introduced by CATS.
Throughout the years, CATS has undergone several revisions since its London and subsequent Broadway openings. CATS first opened in Long, England, in May, 1981. It went to win a record-breaking number of awards worldwide. The original London version of the song “Mungojerrie and Rumpelteazer” was in 12/8 time and had a jazzy accompaniment. In recent productions, a lyric in “Growltiger’s Last Stand” was changed to remove any racially insensitive language. The original London cast recording utilized longer versions of “The Old Gumbie Cat”, “Old Deoteronomy” and “The Ad-Dressing of Cats” with verses and line that were cut from later productions.
With all of the changes that CATS has gone through, who knows what will happen next? CATS has been playing for 21 years at London’s West End and has been presented in more than 30 countries, in 15 different languages. But the one that is taking place in Korea will be in English for everyone to understand the musical without any language barriers. Check below for detailed performance information.
