Webfoot octopus is one of most enjoyed seafood in Korea and they are at their peak!
Taean Mongsanpo Harbor (Mongsangpohang in Chungcheongnam-do) will have the 6th Webfoot Octopus Festival. This octopus is a representative food of Taean. April and May is when these octopuses are in season and the best time to eat them. They are supposed to be better if they are from the west coast. Taean proudly puts out fresh octopus for the health and food satisfaction for all tourists who visit the festival. The festival isn’t the only thing to see when you go; there are a whole bunch of other tourist attractions that are just breathtaking and perfect for the season.
Mongsanpo Beach, part of Taean Coast National Park, stretches 18 km southwest of Seosan, 9km south of Taean and along the west coast of the Nammyeon Peninsula. The beach is surrounded by a dense forest of pine trees. This forest area serves as a good camping location to enjoy some fresh air and the natural beauty of the surroundings. During the low tide, the muddy sediments deposited by the tide provide a place for children and adults to learn how to catch clams and mud crabs under the mudflats. If visitors do consider camping out along the beach, there are tents for rent and places to shower along with concession stands.
What is webfoot octopus? You may have seen them in various stews or stir-fried dishes. These octopuses are abundant in iron and phosphorous. For every 100g, there is about 47kcal. It has quite a low amount of calories with plenty of essential amino acids. This is also great as a dietary food because it has only 1% fat. Also, this has taurine which helps detoxify the liver and get over fatigue. This is just one of the many nutrients that the webfoot octopus carries.
