“Miso” adapted into a traditional dance drama/love story chronicling the four seasons of Korea.
Starting in 1977, the Jeondong Theater opened with performances of traditional Korean dance and music for audiences of all ages. This later evolved into “Miso” in 2008. The story continued to evolve and in 2010 creators unveiled a new plotline, filled with love and jealousy accompanied by the proud and beautiful tradition of Korean dance and music.
Miso is the story of Byeon Hakdo’s intense jealoust of Chunhyang and the enduring love between Chunhyang and Monryong. The basis of the story is based off the Korean folktale “Chunhyangjeon.” The tale entails the couple’s trials and triumphs told through traditional Korean dance, Pansori, and Samulnori. The saga of the two lovers is portrayed through the work of 80 actors and actresses, including 37 dancers, 21 instrumentalists and 13 Samulnori players.
Within the last 14 years, Miso has been an attraction to about 650,000 people. This musical has been particularly well received among international fans as an exceptional show of Korean tradition and culture. Performances are held twice a day (excluding Mondays). There is a showing at 16:00 and another at 20:00. If you make reservations, you can participate in “Janggu Class” to learn how to play the Korean traditional drum or the “Costume Program” which allows participants to try on traditional Korean clothing.
