Getting out of the city and into the rural areas are not the only options you have to get a glimpse of spring.
Yeongdeungpo Yeouido Spring Flower Festival?will open their doors for residents who live in?Seoul and tourists who are visiting. The festival will take place from April 3 to the 13, for 11 days it will be filled with performances, exhibitions, experiences, and other cultural festivities. The festival will be held at?Yeouido Park and the Yeouiseo-ro (behind National Assembly Building). The opening ceremony will portray the harmony between flowers and art which is supposed to equal to happiness. The opening ceremony will be held on April 5, 2014 at 7:30 p.m.
There will be two stages, one on the east gate and the other at the north. During the festival, guests will be able to see/listen to a wide range of performances from classical and jazz to indie and much more. The stages are not the only places to see the performances, the streets will be cluttered with various performances as well. The streets will bring dances, mime, arts and crafts, spring flower collections, art and picture exhibition, and health related booths.
Roads will be blocked off in the entire area for guests to walk around freely without the interruption of passing vehicles. The festival is easily accessible by subway line 9 National Assembly Station (국회의사당역) and take exit 6. From exit 6, it is about a five minute walk. Another way to access the area is using line 5 Yeouinaru Station (여의나루역) and take exit 1. The festival area is about 20 minute walk from exit 1.
Originally, the festival was planned to take place on April 12 to 20 but they had to move up the date because the cherry blossoms bloomed earlier than anticipated. The festival organization announced the date change on March 31, 2014.
This festival used to be called Yeongdeungpo Yeouido Spring Flower Festival, but this has changed to “The Harmony Between Flowers and Art, Also Happiness.” The change of the name took place to create a more open and diverse experience for everyone.
