See those animals (and many others!), up close and personal, when you board the Safari World ride at Everland Resort.
Do you like animals? Do you want to understand what all the fuss about ligers is? ?Does the thought of bears performing tricks make you happy? Then head to Everland and go on the Safari World ride, where you will be able to see lions, tigers, ligers, hyenas, giraffes, and bears, all from the safety of a small bus.
While waiting in line, you’ll be shown a few videos of the animals on the reserve, along with photos of the lions with their names and characteristics. There will be a bulletin board with the types of animals you can see, as well as how many are available for viewing that day. Because the bus driver is the one feeding the bears when they perform a trick, the best seats (for viewing the bears) are on the left side of the bus, as close to the front as possible.
Most of the animals you’ll encounter live in different habitats. Lions, for example, can live with hyenas, but not tigers. In order to guarantee that the animals from different environments are kept separate, the bus has to drive through two gates per habitat area. One gate opens, the bus drives through, and then that gate closes before the next one opens. It will remind you a little of the movie “Jurassic Park!”
The standard 15-minute safari ride (you ride on a bus with around 20 other people) is included in the price of your Everland admission ticket. However, if you want a more intimate experience with the animals, you can opt for the 25-minute private jeep safari tour. The jeeps are outfitted with metal cages around all the windows so that you have direct access to the animals (and them to you! Be sure to keep all limbs inside the jeep!). You can then feed the animals by extending a stick with food on the end. Lions and tigers will clamber onto the jeep in order to access the food.
Near the end of the ride, you’ll go into the bear habitat. These bears are trained to sit along the side of the road and perform tricks when a bus drives by. The driver will “ask” each bear to perform a different trick, and reward the bears with chunks of apple. Some bears can stand on their hind legs and walk alongside the bus! Your first reaction might be to ask yourself, “Is this a man in a bear suit!” Others can raise their front paws and wave. It’s truly amazing how well trained these bears are! It’s sure to be the highlight of your safari ride.
Now that the weather is getting nicer, take a day trip to Everland. Don’t let the long lines for the safari ride deter you. It’s popular for a reason! You will definitely enjoy your close encounter with wild animals. And, the bears performing tricks will bring a smile to your face!
