The Tenth Annual Cheor Won DMZ International Peace Marathon?will have contestants running through the?DMZ as part of their course this Sunday, September 8. Official marathon event is scheduled for 8:30 AM but everyone is requested to arrive by 7:00 AM. This year’s marathon will be held at Go-Sung-Jung. All participants of the marathon will receive gifts as an appreciation for their interest. The course goes through many sightseeing areas?around and inside the DMZ.
The marathon course is divided into five different categories. There is a full course, half course, 10km, 5km, and family walking. Every year, there are about 10,000 participants. Within the 10,000 participants, 400-500 are foreigners who would like to run to keep peace between the two countries’ border. As the time goes by, more and more foreigners become interested in this particular event due to its background and location.
When people visit Korea, DMZ is the one of the “must-see” places that most visitors have on their list. It has been untouched for almost sixty years now. The DMZ is the most natural place you can find in Korea. Due to the atmosphere of the DMZ, there is complete serenity and you may feel like you are at peace with nature. If you are a participant of the marathon, it could be a better atmosphere to run in rather than the polluted city air. If you have always wanted to visit DMZ, why not try it out this weekend and also enjoy the marathon? Or you can be part of the “family stroll” to walk through the marathon course at your own leisure pace while enjoying the scenary.
