Seoul’s Yeongdeungpo-gu District recently announced an extermination campaign to crackdown on businesses and services who rip off foreign tourists.
The target areas consist of 3 sections: transportation, shopping, and restaurant/street stalls.
Regarding the transportation section, the District is going to keep on a continuous crackdown on taxis who are overcharging foreigners and illegal call van operations around places where many tourists visit, such as Yeouido, Yeongdeung-dong, etc.
As for shopping, the District intends to send staff to visit stores in areas where many tourists visit, such as Yeongdeungpo Station and Dangsan Station area, and inspect for fake products or instances of where foreigners are being overcharged.
For restaurants and street stalls, they are going to make groups that consist of customer food sanitation inspectors and go out to restaurants to inspect food and food prices. Also, they are going to suggest sellers to show accurate prices in various foreign languages.
During the inspection, the District is going to charge fines or suspension of business licenses, if necessary.
