Daegu‘s Urban Railroad Construction Headquarters held a news conference to announce the completion of the planning phase for the construction of the city’s 3rd subway line. After discussing the project with engineers and citizens, it has been decided that the new subway line will be built above ground as a monorail.
This briefing touched upon the current progress, construction plans, vehicles, system plans, surroundings, expected environmental effects and experts’ opinions.
The subway line will span 24 km and have 30 subway stations, from Dongho-dong, Chilgok in the north, winding down through the northwest side of central Daegu with stops near Paldal Bridge and Dalseong Park. It will intersect with Seomun Market Station of Line 2 and continue south to Keimyung University’s Daemyeong Campus. Then it will veer east and intersect with Line 1 at Myeongdeok Station and then stretch further east to Dongdaegu Road, which runs south of Beomeo Station. From here it will head south down to Suseong Lake and angle further east past Dong-A Department Store in Beommul-dong.
Negotiations began last September with Hitachi and Woojin Industrial Systems and still remains undecided as to who will given the lucrative development contract. The subway will be slated to begin operating in 2014.
The operation of the 3rd line will be unmanned and fully automated with state-of-the-art equipment. The windows are going to have mist windows to respect the privacy of apartments when passing by. It will run on rubber tires and a train-skirt will work to muffle noise.
The following is some concept art of what some of the visuals of the train will look like on its route:
Passing Debec Plaza.
Making the big turn in Suseong-gu, two blocks south of Beomeo at Gumjeong Mansion Intersection.
Passing through Hwanggeum Intersection (stumbling distance from Ariana Brau!)
Finishing up at Suseong Dong-A.
